Models will feature an inductive charging system

Nissan North America's senior vice president of research and development has revealed the automaker will soon offer five electric vehicles.

Nissan EV lineup to expand to five models - report

Speaking to Automotive News, Carla Bailo said "We haven't announced what models they will be, but we have plans for five." She declined to say when the models would be introduced but confirmed they will feature an inductive charging system that will allow owners to recharge the batteries wirelessly. Nissan reportedly sees the technology as a game changer as the executive promised that "Once that technology is ready, we will use it across our brands."

As you may recall, Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer recently confirmed Infiniti would delay their upcoming electric vehicle to incorporate "interesting advances in electric technology" including inductive charging.

Infiniti Q30 first image revealedDebuts at IAA on September 10

Following a teaser published earlier this month, Infinite has released the first image with the Q30 concept which is scheduled to be unveiled to the public on September 10 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Infiniti says the concept is "not a coupe, not a hatch and not a crossover but a fusion of the three body styles." Aimed at the young crowd, the Q30 wants to be something special in the competitive premium compact segment. According to previous reports, the car will feature a three-way adjustable ride height system and will ride on the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform used on the A- and B-Class models.

A production version has already been confirmed for a 2015 launch and it will be made at the Nissan facility in Sunderland which will be expanded to accommodate the production increase. At the moment, the plant produces 500,000 cars annually but this will be increased by at least ten percent in the years to come.

Just as before, the base model is powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine delivering 120 bhp (89 kW), while the hybrid makes use of a 1.3-liter gasoline mill working together with a CVT and a 13 bhp (10 kW) electric motor.

Already on sale in Japan, the 2014 Honda Fit Shuttle starts at 1.64M yen (16,600 USD) and tops out at 1.99M yen (20,200 USD).

Lexus Car Dealers in Japan

Lexus has officially unveiled the 2014 GX, following a leak earlier this week.

Looking instantly recognizable, the face-lifted model is distinguished by a new front fascia with a prominent spindle grille. The model also gains LED-infused headlights, restyled taillights and a new rear bumper.

2014 Lexus GX facelift 23.8.2013Interior changes are limited but include updated trim and a new infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen display. There's also a new Premium Package which adds perforated leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, a tri-zone climate control system, Intuitive Parking Assist and GPS navigation.

If that's not impressive enough, the range-topping GX Luxury has an adaptable air suspension, Intuitive Parking Assist and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The model also has GPS navigation and 18-inch alloy wheels with a liquid graphite finish.

2014 Lexus GX facelift 23.8.2013
Motivation is provided by a 4.6-liter V8 engine that develops 301 bhp (224 kW) and 329 lb-ft (445 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends power to a full-time four-wheel drive system with a limited-slip torque-sensing center differential. This setup enables the model to return an EPA-estimated 15 mpg city / 20 mpg highway (US).

The 2014 Lexus GX will be priced from $49,085 when it arrives at dealerships in September.

Nissan Car Exporter in japan

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., usually shortened to Nissan  is a Japanese multinational automaker headquartered in Japan. It was a core member of the Nissan Group, but has become more independent after its restructuring under CEO Carlos Ghosn.

Nissan was the sixth largest automaker in the world behind General Motors, Volkswagen Group, Toyota, Hyundai Motor Group, and Ford in 2011. It formerly marketed vehicles under the "Datsun" brand name. As of 2011, the company's global headquarters is located in Nishi-ku, Yokohama. In 1999, Nissan entered a two way alliance with Renault S.A. of France, which owns 43.4% of Nissan while Nissan holds 15% of Renault shares, as of 2008. Along with its normal range of models, Nissan also produces a range of luxury models branded as Infiniti.

Nissan has released the first teaser image of the 2014 Rogue.

  2014 Nissan Rogue teased

Set to be unveiled on September 10th, the crossover promises to "push the envelope of CUV design." While the teaser image doesn't reveal much, the company posted an undisguised thumbnail of the model on their consumer website. It shows the crossover will have a stylish exterior with plastic body cladding, chrome trim and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but previous reports have indicated the model will be equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that develops 182 bhp (136 kW) and 180 lb-ft (244 lb-ft). It will likely be connected to a continuously variable transmission and an optional all-wheel drive system.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive - Alain Japan

New plug-in hybrid concept claimed to be capable of traveling up to 19 miles on electric power alone; demonstrates future production BMW hybrid technology

This is the BMW Concept X5 eDrive, a plug-in hybrid, which will make its debut at Frankfurt.

It is based around a new-generation plug-in hybrid drive-train, which matches a ‘four-cylinder, Twin-power Turbo engine’ - believed to be a petrol unit - with a 94bhp electric motor. The electric motor is backed up by a lithium-ion battery, which is packaged under the boot floor.

BMW is claiming that the X5 eDrive can manage up to 75mph and up to 19 miles on battery power alone. It also says the concept can hit 62mph in ‘under 7 seconds”. On today’s EU economy cycle, the X5 eDrive returns 74.3mpg and ‘under 90g/km’ of CO2.

Other changes, compared to the conventional X5, include minor cosmetic tweaks, specially designed roof rails and aerodynamically optimized lightweight alloy wheels. Three driving modes are offered: intelligent hybrid, pure electric or 'Safe Battery', which maintains the current charge level.

The BMW is designed as a plug-in hybrid and is capable of being recharged from any domestic power socket, or dedicated charging points. Included in its boot is a compartment for storing the charging cable, reducing clutter and mess.

The high-voltage battery developed for the concept is mounted in a 'crash-safe' position under the boot floor; BMW says the X5's load capacity is only 'slightly reduced' as a result.

Sources say that the eDrive hybrid transmission is probably two years away from the showroom and is likely to coincide with the arrival of BMW’s all-new 5-series range, which will also get this drive-train as an option. BMW engineers are said to be aiming for a 50g/km CO2 emissions rating by launch.

The Concept X5 eDrive is the second plug-in hybrid to feature BMW's electrified power-train technology, eDrive, the first being the BMW Concept Active Tourer.

Toyota Car Exporter in Japan

Toyota Launches Hybrid Corolla, Keeps It In Japan

TOKYO - Toyota launched its hybrid version of the Corolla in Tokyo. It was done in the trademark frugal style of Toyota JDM car launches: A sparse meeting room in the building that houses Japan’s auto manufacturer association JAMA, a PowerPoint projector, a small bottle of water per reporter, that was it. No smoke, no dancing girls, the cars had to be viewed outside in the driveway. If you are used to the hullabaloo of American car launches, you would have been shocked. If you are part of the Tokyo press corps, you don’t know it any other way. TMC’s hefty profits have a few reasons, and cutting out of muda, elimination of the dreaded waste, is one of them.

Toyota’s 11th generation Corolla was launched onto the Japanese market in May 2012, with a spiffier and bigger U.S. model following a few months ago (this time with American aplomb). Much to the chagrin of parts of the media, no hybrid versions of the Corolla were offered. Today, with as little fanfare as possible, this was changed. At least as far as the Japanese market is concerned.

Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -143 Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -096When the new Corolla was launched in 2012, the thinking at TMC went that 21.4 km/liter for the Axio sedan with idling stop (stop-start) was frugal enough. The Japanese customer, however, had a different opinion, and demanded a hybrid power-train, Toyota’s deputy chief engineer Hiroshi Nakamura tells me on this hot and muggy Tokyo morning. Toyota went on a crash program. In a record one year and two months, the Corolla had a hybrid power-train, and the demanding Japanese customer sees its wishes fulfilled.

Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -124 Equipped with Toyota’s 1NZ-FXE 1.5-liter THS II hybrid system with reduction gear, both the Axio sedan version and the Fielder wagon variant of the Corolla achieve a fuel efficiency of 33.0 km/liter under Japan’s (notoriously optimistic, we spare you the EPA conversions) JC08 test cycle. The results come very close to the Prius c (sold in Japan as the Aqua), which sports a 35.4 km/l rating.

TMC’s engineers shrunk the formerly bulky hybrid system down to a compact package that easily fits into a compact car without taking up precious space, leaving interior room and trunk space unimpeded by the hybrid system. Hybrid battery and fuel tank are tucked away under the rear seat. The tank lost only 6 liters (1.6 gallons) versus the all-gasoline model, and it wasn’t much of a sacrifice. The theoretical range of the hybrid Axio is 1,188 km (738 miles) on a single tank, 289 km (179 miles) more than the all-gasoline model.
Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -124The cost of the hybrid system has come down, but it still comes at a premium. When the regular Axio went on sale last year, it started at 1,357,000 yen. The hybrid version costs upwards from 1,925,000 yen, remaining below the psychologically important 2 million yen (US$20,000) barrier. The Hybrid G Aerotourer WxB special edition Corolla Fielder with a stylish black interior and a faux carbon fiber dash costs 2,340,000 yen.

Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -096
It may have taken Toyota only a year and two months to react to the market forces, but they have been evident for a while. Toyota’s Prius has been on top of Japan’s sales charts since 2009. It recently has been toppled by its Aqua sibling, which is sold in the U,.S. as the Prius c. In the first seven months of the year, the Aqua sold 160,993 units in Japan, followed by the Prius with 155,539 units. Taken together, the Prius and the Aqua, a.k.a. Prius c, sell three times more than the 3rd-placed Nissan Note in Japan. In the much larger U.S. market, all Prii together sold 138,477 units January through July, that’s less than half of the Japanese volume. The market share of all hybrid cars wallows in the 3 percent range in the U.S.

This may be the reason why the hybrid Corolla should remain a Japanese phenomenon until further notice. Toyota’s spokesfolk said today that there are no plans to sell a hybrid Corolla outside of the country, and that the Prius is seen as carrying the hybrid flag for a while. As the example of the Corolla shows, these opinions can change with the market, and with sinking price premiums of the hybrid system.

Corolla Hybrid JDM Launch - Bertel Schmitt -116

The hybrid Corolla will be built in Toyota’s Miyagi plant, which assembles hybrid cars for the first time. 2,500 units of the monthly run rate of 8,000 JDM Corollas are expected to sell with the hybrid power-train. The car can use a little lift in Japan. The global bestseller is an also-ran at home in Nippon. On the January through July Japanese sales chart, the Corolla sits in rank 8.

Japanese Used Car Dealers in Japan

Why buy used?

Used. Pre-owned. Previously enjoyed. Gone are the days of the shark-skin-suit-clad used car salesmen offering heaps that were owned by a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. Today, late-model used cars are not only a safe buy, they make good financial sense. This article will highlight the advantages of buying used over new, so you can decide which is best for you.

The same car for less money

When you buy used, you miss out on the heaviest depreciation hit. A new Honda Accord LX will set you back around $21,500. Buy a similarly-equipped two-year-old Accord with 24,000 miles and you'll pay about $4,000 less. (And that's for a car that holds its value well. A Mitsubishi Galant ES costs about the same new as an Accord; 2 years and 24,000 miles later it's $7,000 cheaper.)

More car for the same money

A nicely equipped new Toyota Corolla XRS will set you back around $18,000. But what if you want something bigger? For the same amount of money, you could buy a two-year-old Toyota Camry loaded to the gills or a three-year-old Avalon, Toyota's biggest sedan. Planning on growing your family? You'll find plenty of four-year-old Honda Odyssey minivans in the new Corolla's price range.

You can also move up in prestige. A new Toyota Camry XLE V6 with all the bells and whistles is a nice ride; at $30,000 it had better be. But for the same price (or even a couple grand less), you could be stylin' in a two-year-old Lexus ES330, Audi A6 or BMW 325i.

Certified pre-owned

More and more manufacturers offer "certified pre-owned" programs. Cars sold as certified pre-owned (CPO) bridge the gap between new and used. They are subject to a rigorous inspection and repair process, and usually are covered by a warranty from the manufacturer. CPO cars will usually cost a bit more, but the added warranty and peace of mind makes them a good value

Japan Car Exporter, Japanese Used Cars, Used Japanese Cars

Detroit automakers need to stop whining about the weak yen damaging their ability to compete against Japanese automakers. It conjures up decades-old images of excuse-making, when the Detroit 3's problems were everyone's fault but their own.

The yen was trading in the range of 80-90 to the dollar for the past couple of years, before its recent correction, meaning the yen was strong while the dollar was weak. But what got it there?

The yen was consistently trading at 110 to 120 to the dollar for nearly a decade, whereupon the 2008 Lehman Brothers bankruptcy shocked the global economic system. The dollar weakened horribly as U.S. banks suffered huge losses and the U.S. economy stalled.

During the global economic doldrums, Japan and its yen became comparatively strong, and the yen zoomed to 80 to the dollar.

Today, the American economy is in recovery, and Japan is finally taking steps to get its own economy in shape.

Japan's Abenomics measures to boost its economy rely on loads of new public debt -- in a country with a larger budget deficit than the United States'. They have strengthened its economy but weakened its currency. Hence the dollar is rebounding against the yen.

So what does this mean to the auto industry?

Detroit loves to harp that every time the yen weakens by 1 yen against the dollar, that means $350 million in extra profit for Japanese car companies. A 10-yen swing means $3.5 billion more in the black for Japan Inc., which, to be fair, has been borne out in recent earnings reports.

But look again at the chart. Anyone who has taken an Econ 101 course can draw the 25-year trend line. The yen is right around where it should be.

We're hearing lots of currency-manipulation talk from protectionists, but none of them were asking us to take it easy on Japan when the dollar plummeted 40 percent against the yen back in the mid-'90s, and again a few years ago.

For the past five years, the Detroit 3 have basically had a free shot at stealing profit and market share from Toyota, Honda and Nissan. Now that opportunity has run its course, and the trend line shows that the playing field has once again leveled -- if you call that sharply sloping trend line level.

But, really, it's much ado about nothing. Foreign exchange rates don't matter much to a Japanese automaker such as Honda, which builds 90 percent of its U.S.-sold cars in North America. That's how Japanese automakers hedge against currency fluctuations.

All of Detroit's teeth gnashing about unfair exchange rates distracts from the real issue: Compete on product, and let the best car win.

Suzuki plans to sell cost-effective Maruti Cars in Japan

It has been 26 years since Suzuki Motors Corp. launched its first car in the Indian market under the brand name Maruti Suzuki.  The company is now set to launch low cost Maruti car models in the Japanese automobile market, from where even Korea’s auto giant Hyundai Motors withdrew after stiff competition there had endangered its growth plans.  The first Maruti model to be introduced in Japan will be the Maruti A-Star.  Maruti’s importance is growing in the global plans of Suzuki Motors.  It currently contributes to over half of the Japanese automaker’s profits and generated about 33% of its total turnover each year rising from just 10% in 2005-06.  maruti suzuki a-star  According to S. Nakanishi, Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki, considering the manner in which Maruti models are capturing the global market, the Japanese car market is certainly not far away.
The A-Star meet’s Europe’s stringent emission norms and is perfectly suited for hitting the highly developed market of Japan, where even top global car makers are finding it tough to survive.  Maruti’s A-Star, though relatively new in the Indian market, contributes to almost 25% of the total exports (800,000 cars) by Maruti Suzuki.  Currently, Maruti is developing several contemporary models, some of them being small cars, to be launched soon.  By 2015, Suzuki will be investing Rs 60 billion (around $1.3 billion) in India to take Maruti’s  production capacity per year to 1.75 million cars, and will also establish a new R&D center for producing cars on its own for the global market .

Nowadays, many Japanese automakers are shifting production to low-cost countries for taking advantage of cheaper labor costs and frugal engineering. Suzuki is already moving manufacturing to its overseas subsidiaries in India, Hungary and China, which contribute to over 70% of its total volumes.  In comparison, the company is struggling in the sluggish Japanese auto market.  Honda also will be manufacturing its Brio compact hatchback for international markets from the Greater Noida region in north India.  Nissan has moved the production base of its compact car Micra for its international markets to Chennai in India from the UK, and to Thailand for the South East Asia region and Japan.

Today, Suzuki is a leader in the small cars category and WagonR (of which bigger variants are being sold in India) is the top selling Kei car since 2003 in Japan.  Suzuki sells a significant number of the small Kei cars, some of these models being market leaders in Japan.  Kei cars are very small yet sophisticated automobiles with 660 cc engines, a combination of nano design and the smallest engines in the world.  Now that the Indian market is maturing rapidly, it won’t be long before Suzuki starts selling different Indian-manufactured cars in Japan.
